First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my colleagues in the council for supporting me and working hard in the past months to implement our action plan in approaching the targets that we made at the beginning of this year. In regard to having more recognition of our professional status in the industry, a working team has already been set up and chaired by our Vice President Mr. Jeff Cheung in exploring the Registration of Construction Manager on our own. The next step is continuing to seek the possibility of statutory recognition of Registered Construction Manager. To maintain regular contact with all the stakeholders in the industry, we have continued to present ourselves in every occasion to share the experience and knowledge with them and also expressed our views on public concerns. This November, we have arranged a delegation to visit Beijing, the China Construction Industry Association and Ministry of Construction to discuss more collaboration and strengthen relationships with them. I would also like to thank our Vice President, Mr. Paul Chung for making all the arrangement. For expanding our membership basis, we are preparing to recruit more Construction Supervisor grade memberships and then we will provide more training through CPD events to enhance the supervision technique and quality management on site. Meanwhile, a working team is now chaired by our Vice President, Mr. Barry Sin to follow up this issue and I would like to thank his effort in contacting the relevant stakeholders in the industry to invite them to join our institute.
In promoting the construction image and sowing the seed in introducing construction professions to the secondary school students, we have actively involved the Youth Construction Discovery Challenge (YCDC) organized by VTC & CIC together with HKICM, HKIS. HKIE, HKIA, HKCA & HKFEMC. Most of the preparation work has already been completed and it is now open for the schools to apply to join this competition. It will commence in December and the final submission & adjudication will be made in May next year. I would like to thank our Mr. Patrick Lai and Mr. Anthony Lai for joining the YCDC organizing committee on behalf of HKICM. This event is to enable the secondary school students to have an understanding in the construction industry and to develop their interests in the various professions in the construction field after leaving schools.
In addition, we are going to launch the Construction Management Research Award shortly with the aim of promoting the profession of construction management and innovative building in tertiary institutions. It is providing an open competitive platform for students to demonstrate their capabilities and share the learning process in the construction management regime. We will receive papers from the applicants in various grades including the master degree students, bachelor degree students and sub-degree programme students. It is expected that the awards will be given in September next year. Again we would encourage the profession to continue to promote and demonstrate its ability to provide world class standard in construction management and the innovative ideas will be discovered in the papers received in this event. I would like to thank our Honorary Secretary Mr. C.M. Ho for organizing this activity.
Finally, I would like to thank our editorial team, headed by Mr. Chan Wai Shing for his hard work in publishing the second issue of our Newsletter in my term. Nevertheless, we have to listen to our members and your suggestions & comments are very important. Please feel free to pass your message to our secretariat. |
