“The UVC (Ultraviolet light in the C Spectrum) Technology Air Treatment
System for Commercial Kitchen Exhaust in Hong Kong”

Organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers, the CPD Seminar on “The UVC (Ultraviolet light in the C Spectrum) Technology Air Treatment System for Commercial Kitchen Exhaust in Hong Kong” was held on 20th March 2019 at HKICM training centre. More than 30 attendants participated.

The guest speaker: Ir. Edwin LAU delivered a distinguished seminar on his product development of UVC (Ultra-violet-C) technology in air and water treatment system. He held master degree in chemical engineering and dedicated his works in clean and renewable energy in his profession as RPE. He has worked in international companies in H.K., China, Australia and United States. His product “Purovent” adopted UV-C technology, which is commonly visible in arc-welding. The uses of UV-C & ozone technology in commercial kitchen exhaust have many advantages over the FOUR conventional kitchen exhaust air treatment equipment under collection-and-treatment principle. The all-in-one product is user-friendly with oil fume removal efficiency over 90% attributed to the use of UV-C tubes to suit all exhaust air flow. The advanced use of this technology effectively eliminates chemical usage and water recirculation system as well as providing good working conditions to kitchen staff. Besides, it is easy for T&C and maintenance.

Ir Edwin also illustrated the recent works in best practice of UVC air treatment in commercial kitchen exhaust. His seminar was very informative and stimulating. There are good questions from the audience and insightful answers from the guest speaker.

Highlights:

Ultraviolet light in the C spectrum (UV-C) is energy-rich light and is very versatile and can be used for disinfecting water, destroying harmful micro-organisms in other liquids, on surfaces, on food products and in 'air'.

Incorporated with UVC technology in kitchen exhaust air treatment system, it is proven that the oil grease emitted from food cooking is decomposed into harmless molecules, and eleminate odour without using chemical and water. The oil removal efficiency of UVC technology is certified by HOKLAS accredited lab in accordance to HKEPD stardard testing procedure.

The presentation will introduce UVC technology, innovation for eliminating oil grease at the source and preventing fire hazard in exhaust system, as well as best practices for kitchen exhaust maintenance.
