The HKICM President, Cr Daniel Shum, together with the Vice President, Cr Billy Lee, Honorary President, Cr Paul Chung, Honorary Secretary of Membership, Cr Dick Li, Honorary Secretary of Secretariat, Cr Simon Leung, AS Committee Chairman, Cr Chris Chung, AS Committee Member, Edward Geung, welcomed a courtesy visit by the leaders of Hong Kong Stainless Steel Piping and Fittings Merchants Association (HKSSPFMA), the Chairman, Mr. Kenneth Wong, Vice Chairman, Mr. TS Wong, Committees Members, Wang Kin, Mr. Gabriel Ku, Dr. Eric Cheng and Mr. Raymond Lau, on 26 July 2019, Friday, 12:30 noon, in the conference room of the HKICM office.
This visit by the HKSSPFMA was aimed to communicate with the HKICM and to review the development of the applicability of the stainless steel pipes and fittings for the plumbing system of the construction field in Hong Kong and other countries.
During the meeting, both parties briefly introduced the history, establishment and organization structure of their respective organizations and updated each other on the current progress, activities and development of their organizations. The HKICM asked the questions of prices and cost, approval status by government and other relevant bodies, merits and drawbacks of the materials of stainless steel and copper, numbers of current membership, etc. The HKSSPFMA presented that the adoption of the stainless steel pipes and fittings in the construction industry in Japan has been for 47 years. In long standing, stainless steel may precede copper because of use of no lead joint and time saving in site installation. They also briefly advised the costs and market condition of the pipes and fittings of stainless steel and copper, the difficulties of the on-site control of lead strips and the impact of the fail in lead test, etc.
At the end of the meeting, the two organizations will jointly or co-sponsor seminar, CPD and training as well as technical and factory visits to the production bases in China. In the coming seminar to be offered by HKSSPFMA, the following areas will be covered in more details: composition of the stainless steel (304/316), requirements of standards of hygiene of water supply, connection methods (expanded collar, groove, push fit and press), manufacturing process (steel milling, arc welding, casting of fittings, sterilization), cost comparison, etc.
